Armenian broke The World Record by Making the World’s Largest Crossword Puzzle

Crossword from 25970 words in Russian is included in the Guinness Book of records by setting a new world record in the nomination «most published crossword».

The previous record was a Canadian lawyer Robert Truko in 1982 and had 25614 words told ITAR-TASS, the editor-in-Chief of «Russian crossword» Alisher Khalilov. He noted that the Crossword is in Russian and made by a 35-year-old resident of Yerevan, Armenia, Ara Hovhannisyan and published in edition of 100 copies.

Khalilov noted that crossmakes around the world, including the Russians tried to beat the record, but until now this has not been able to anyone. The main reason is a number of strict rules. For example, Crossword is strictly symmetrical on both axes, and the number of words is counted on both vertically and horizontally.

Printed crossword-giant is a folding paper cloth 2.3 2.4 metres, the colors of the Russian flag. Number of cells for letters was 132 thousand.

Interesting Story of First Armenian and First Arab Photographers In Palestine/Jerusalem (photos)

Armenians as we know were pioneers of photography in Palestine/Jerusalem.

First ever Arab photographer was Palestinian Khalil Raad, a student of an Armenian photographer Garabed Krikorian who is in his turn studied at photography workshop established by another Armenian Issay Garabedian who was Armenian Patriarch of Jerusalem.

Khalil Raad opened a photography shop right across the street of his teacher which caused a fierce competition. After Garabed Krikorian died his son Jon took over the photoshop. The question of competition was closed when Jon married Raad’s niece Najla who was called «peace bride».

Krikorian was the photographer who made famous albums for Abdul Hamid on Palestine and later on he wasan official photographer of Kaiser Wilhelm II when he as visiting Palestine in 1899.

Tateos Agekian

A world famous scientist in stellar statistics,kinematics and dynamics. T.A. Agekian is one of the pioneers of Russian and world Stellar Dynamics. Has found two evolutionary sequences of stellar systems: nearly spherical and strongly flattened. Suggested essentially new method to investigate the structure and kinematics of the Milky Way Galaxy. Found a new estimate for the dissipation rate in stellar clusters. T. A. Agekian gave an exhaustive analysis of the photogravitational interaction between stars and gas clouds. The results obtained provide a possible explanation for the phenomenon of the stellar velocity increase with age. A planet (3862, «Agekian») was named in honor of Tateos Agekian.

Trdat the Architect

Trdat the Architect (Armenian: Տրդատ ճարտարապետ, circa 940s – 1020; Latin: Tiridates) was the chief architect of the Bagratuni kings of Armenia, whose 10th century monuments have been argued to be the forerunners of Gothic architecture which came to Europe several centuries later.

In 961, Ashot III moved his capital from Kars to the great city of Ani where he assembled new palaces and rebuilt the walls. The Catholicosate was moved to the Argina district in the suburbs of Ani where Trdat completed the building of the Catholicosal palace and the Mother Cathedral of Ani. This cathedral offers an example of a cruciform domed church within a rectangular plan.

After a great earthquake in 989 ruined the dome of Hagia Sophia, the Byzantine officials summoned Trdat to Byzantium to organize repairs. The restored dome was completed by 994. Trdat is also thought to have designed or supervised the construction of Surb Nshan (Holy Sign, completed in 991), the oldest structure at Haghpat Monastery.
