New Fantastic Archeological Discoveries in Armenia; Eneolithic people

In a well known Areni 1,Vaiots Dzor in well preserved burial places of people of the enelithic age are found. As we now excavations are conducted by Arme nain team  in cooperation with from the University of California (USA) and University College Cork (UCC) (Ireland).

Bodies of adults and children in clay tombs have been found. Children’s bodies are intact, but the adults were dismembered. The find gives  unique opportunity to find out the children’s genetic code by means of DNA analyses. This, in turn, will supply scientists with valuable information on the humans’ genetic evolution. But  that all is very expensive, laboratory analyses cost €60,000.

The colourful vessels with the sun and animals are a very interesting as weel since colours were not widely spread in Armenia in the eneolithic age.

Also, the scientists have found a skirt made of reed that could be 5,900-year-old.

Earlier excavation in the same location has produced what researchers believe is a 5,500-year-old shoe, making it the oldest piece of leather footwear known to researchers.

Boris Gasparian, an Armenian archaeologist who worked jointly with U.S. and Irish scientists at the site, said they also found a mummified goat that could be 5,900-year-old, or more than 1,000 years older than the mummified animals found in Egypt.

A Special Essay by , WACJ Art Historian

During the Artashesian Dynasty, Tigran II (95-56 B.C.) was an advocate of the Greek culture and arts. His interest in the Hellenistic culture encompassed  Greek sculpture, architecture, women and men costumes and ornamental arts. Yet, he made sure that the Greek fashion would not alter the ethnic look and style of the national Armenian dress-making and clothing style. Consequently, the national Armenian costumes, dresses and suits for men and women conserved their national identity. This was documented by the minted coins of the era.

A Special Essay by Prof. Maximillien de La Croix de Lafayette, WACJ Art Historian

The carving on the Babylonian black stone shown above depicts a scene of goddess Ninishkum imploring the winged goddess Ishtar for a great favor. Ishtar, a very powerful deity is standing in the center of the cylinder seal, placing her right foot over the back neck of a lion and holding a scimitar, symbol of power and military might. The dress design of Ishtar is extremely informative. The horizontal lines ornamental pattern in a form of quasi-curve alignment refer to her divine status. The dress has short arm sleeves which does not correspond to the taste of Urartutrian goddesses but,
