When I saw her picture I immediately recognised one of the characters in Brazilian soap movie seen long before in Armenia. But we never knew she was an Armenian.
Aracy Balabanian (Campo Grande, February 22, 1937 is a Brazilian actress of Armenian origin.
Her parents came to Brazil from Western Armenia (Eastern Turkey now), fleeing genocide committed by the Ottoman Turks. She was born in Campo Grande, capital of the current state of Mato Grosso do Sul.
At fifteen they moved to São Paulo with the seven brothers. She studied at school of dramatic art, worked in the theatre, television.
